03 January 2016, Asaba – Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) is to increase the number of empowered people in Ndokwa.

desopadecThe Executive Director in Charge of Social Services Development of the commission, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, during an empowerment programme at Ashaka, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State stated that, just as some of the beneficiaries of the programme appreciated him and the commission for the programme.

Ochor who spoke to newsmen at the occasion, said that over 200 beneficiaries, made of youths, women, widows and the physically challenged, were empowered, while the commission will increase the number of beneficiaries in the area so that majority of  Ndokwa people will not only be self-reliant, but also  be employers of labour.

While pleading with the beneficiaries to protect and put to proper use the starter packs given to them, he called on those that did not benefit to be patient as the exercise was a continuous one as directed by  Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in line with the SMART agenda of the state government.

Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries of the programme from Ukwuani LGA thanked Ochor for the gesture. The beneficiaries, who spoke through Mr Kingsley Emeke, said the empowerment was the best Christmas and New Year gift they ever received, as the materials and cash gifts will go a long way to end the year, and begin the New Year, 2016.
