25 June 2014, News Wires – Eni has been awarded three new exploration blocks in Algeria by the North African country’s hydrocarbons agency.
The Italian giant will be required to carry out studies and drill exploration wells on the three tracts – El Guefoul, Tinerkouk and Terfas – covering 46,837 square kilometres in the Timimoun and Oued Mya basins onshore southern Algeria.
Eni will act as operator for the permits with state-owned Sonatrach as partner.
“The three areas are considered of great interest and potential,” the Milan-based company said.
The latest awards add to Eni’s existing tally of 32 licences in Algeria, of which 29 are producing and three are under development.
