14 August 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – US oil giant, ExxonMobil has said the oil spill reportedly noticed on the Atlantic coastline near Ibeno in Akwa Ibom state was not from its facilities.
The presence of deposits of oil on the coastline was reported by residents of Ibeno near ExxonMobil’s Qua Iboe Oil Terminal.
But, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, the local arm of ExxonMobil in the West African country, said Tuesday that the spill was not from the terminal or any of its other facilities near there.
The company, however, said a response team has been dispatched to the site of the spill and a sample of the oil taken to ascertain its origin.
