Lagos — A former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and Chairman of the Mission to Seafarers, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, has commended the efforts of seafarers worldwide in keeping international trade going despite the Coronavirus that is currently ravaging the world.

The Mission to Seafarers is a non-governmental organization caring for seafarers globally.

Sarumi said that seafarers have remained steadfast in the frontline of the scourge, continually and relentlessly in sustaining the global economy even in the face of the attendant challenges.

He also said that the mission equally recognize the efforts of shipping companies and maritime agencies worldwide for their sacrifices in keeping global economy going.

Part of the statement reads: “We in particular salute the courage and verve of seafarers and maritime workers who daily sacrifice lives and limbs to keep global trade afloat. This year has however been anything but ordinary.

“Amidst the throes of a ravaging pandemic and its damning recourse on lives including a projected global recession, seafarers have remained steadfast in the frontline of the scourge, continually and relentlessly labouring in buoying a global economy.

“This is stark in the face of attendant challenges on their families and their working environment.

‘‘The Mission to Seafarers Lagos equally recognizes the efforts of shipping fleets, maritime agencies as well as fellow Seafarers welfare institutions who have collaboratively worked at protecting, promoting and enhancing the lot of seafarers especially in our clime.

“It is our and belief that we shall all ride this storm to emerge stronger and even better placed to face the multitudes of challenges life throws at us in the future.”
