04 February 2014, News Wires – Frontier Resource International has secured a two-year extension on its licence onshore Namibia’s Owambo basin days after announcing analysis of soil gas samples on the acreage had uncovered signs of hydrocarbon source rock.
The country’s Minister of Mines and Energy has extended the London-listed explorer’s licence on blocks 1717 and 1718, awarded in January 2012, to run until January 2016.
Frontier said it sought the extension “time to collect additional soil gas samples for geochemical analysis and to acquire 2D seismic data over the blocks prior to the commencement of any drilling programme”.
Frontier operates the 18,922-square kilometre licence near the border with Angola on a 90% interest, with Namibian National Oil Company holding a 10% carried interest.
