06 March 2014, Lagos – The ongoing scarcity of fuel in the country may have created jobs for some unemployed youths in Lagos as they were seen selling the product in kegs to eager motorists, who were willing to buy the product at any price.
Some of the young men involved in the act were seen making brisk business in areas like Yaba, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Iju and other places.
They were seen displaying petrol in 25 litres kegs and wooing commercial bus drivers and other motorists in Yaba area of the state yesterday.
It was however, observed that most filling stations are now selling fuel to motorists, who formed large queues at the stations.
Some of the filling stations at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos were seen selling fuel to car owners and commercial bus drivers, while some only sold to people, who went there with gallons.
In his reaction, the president of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama said that scarcity of fuel was the handiwork of detractors, saying that the organised labour was working seriously to normalisefuel supply.
“We strongly condemn the fuel scarcity being experienced in the country because it is the work of detractors, we will not allow them to hold this country to ransom. This is a deliberate attempt to create artificial scarcity of fuel so that the government can stop subsidy. There is no way government will not subsidise fuel. The organised labour will take a very strong position if the scarcity continues,” he added.
