03 February 2014, Darfur – Work on parts of the Ingaz highway, between Zalingei and El Geneina, and Nyala and El Fasher, was suspended 20 days ago owing to a lack of diesel. The Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) reported in a press statement that the lack of diesel needed for operating the road construction machines has temporarily halted work on the Zalingei-El Geneina and Nyala-El Fasher road. The DRA attributed the problem to the Sudanese Ministry of Finance’s failure to provide money for the companies working on the highway.
Resident engineer and the supervisor of the western part of the Ingaz road (Zalingei-El Geneina), Salah Mohamed Yasir, confirmed that the construction team is waiting for fuel.
