Port Harcourt  — The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has commended the Rivers State Government on its planned launch of the Palliative Bus Transport System aimed at ameliorating the plight of workers in the state from the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
TUC Chairman in Rivers State, Comrade Ikechukwu Onyefuru, said the initiative by Governor Siminalayi Fubara was a testimony that the governor has the interest of people at heart.
Onyefuru also hailed Governor Fubara on his decision to invite organised labour, through the Ministry of Transportation, to the launching of the transport palliative, which is slated for tomorrow at the Rivers Transport Company yard in Waterlines, Port Harcourt.
The TUC boss noted that the launch of the transportation initiative will create an avenue for the governor to interface with organised labour in Rivers State on cushioning the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government on workers in the state.
TUC urged the governor to fast-track other welfare packages for workers in the state in terms of promotion, payment of outstanding workers’ entitlements, and the speedy renovation of the State Secretariat Complex.
He restated the commitment of TUC to support the State government on its developmental goal, and called on members of organised labour to grace the the launching in appreciation of the governor and the government of Rivers State.
