18 January 2012, Sweetcrude, Asaba – Oil Subsidy: Uduaghan appoints Gamaliel Onosode to head Project Monitoring Committee on the implementation of accruing proceeds to Delta

DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has appointed a three-man Committee charged with the responsibility of monitoring the implementation of projects to be funded with proceeds accruable from oil subsidy to the State.

The Committee is headed by Deacon Gamaliel Onosode while Chief Philip Asiodu and Mrs. Elizabeth Adegite will serve as members.

Uduaghan who stated this while commissioning 100 new additional buses to boost public transportation in the State in Asaba, on Tuesday said that raising the Committee made up of persons of such high caliber was a demonstration of his administration’s seriousness to ensure that the required benefits that will accrue from the removal of fuel subsidy were delivered.

While assuring Deltans that the expected proceeds would be used to address critical infrastructure, the governor pointed out that “deregulation has to be done if the economy must grow to secure the future and prosperity of the country.

He further added that “the intended benefits for the vulnerable groups n the countryhad been lost subsidy had become a policy that enriches a few and protects the rich instead of the weak. So with the withdrawal of subsidy resources can now be deployed to address critical areas of our economy”.
