17 August 2016, Sweetcrude, Accra – Ghana will see its second commercial oil field, the Deep Water Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme, commence production on Thursday.
This is according to Vice-President and Country Director for American oil exploration company, KOSMOS Energy, Joe Mensah.
Mensah discloseed this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Accra, saying the new field would be inaugurated by Ghana’s President, John Mahama
He said the Floating Production Storage and Offloading Atta Mills, which would be used on the TEN field, is designed for a capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day and that production between first oil in August 2016 and the end of this year would be 23,000 bpd.
“They are Tullow Oil, 47.18 per cent; Kosmos Energy, 17 per cent Anadarko, 17 per cent; and Petro S.A, 3.82 per cent,” he said.
Mensah indicated that the associated gas produced from TEN would be re-injected into the Ntomme reservoir gas cap until gas export due to commence 12 months after field start-up begins.
The TEN field discovery was made in 2009 and a Plan of Development (PoD) was approved in 2013.
Ghana’s Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, hinted last week of the take off of production from the TEN project this week at a mid-year review meeting with heads of agencies under the Ministry of Petroleum.
He stated that after production of first oil on August 18, the TEN field will begin the production of gas in the first quarter of 2018.
Ghana is hoping on this as a major source of gas for power generation, to wean it from its current over-dependence on gas supplies from Nigeria, which has remained erratic.
