Port Harcourt — Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has called for increased Chinese investment in the Calabar Free Trade Zone, emphasizing its role in driving economic growth and industrial development in the state.
The governor made this appeal while hosting the Chinese Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuqing, and her delegation at his office in Calabar, the state capital.
During the visit, the Chinese team donated anti-malaria drugs valued at N35 million to support the state’s efforts in combating malaria and improving healthcare delivery.
Speaking, Governor Otu said, “Cross River State remains open to partnerships that will drive development, and the Calabar Free Trade Zone is a significant part of our strategy for economic growth. We welcome Chinese investors to explore the opportunities here.”
The Governor also lauded the longstanding relationship between Cross River State and China, noting the contributions of the Chinese community to trade, industrial growth, and cultural exchange.
In her remarks, Chinese Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuqing commended the state’s investment potential and cultural heritage.
Yuqing and her delegation also discussed opportunities for large-scale infrastructure projects and enhancing the global appeal of the renowned Calabar Carnival.
“Cross River State has a lot to offer in terms of trade, agriculture, and infrastructure development. China is committed to deepening our relationship and exploring more avenues for collaboration,” she said.
Key members of the Chinese delegation include Mr. Qi Chenjun of CCECC Nigeria, Mr. Yang Wenyi from the Chinese community in Cross River, and Mr. Fan Yongsheng of Mutual Commitment Company Limited.
