12 March 2014, Abuja – The Federal Government said it was committed to deploying renewable energy in all forms to complement existing conventional sources to provide sustainable electricity to Nigerians.
The Minister of State for Power, Alhaji Mohammed Wakil, made the promise when he received the Executive Vice Chairman of Springcot Groups, Mr Peter Sharper in Abuja on Monday.
The minister said the administration was working on strategic renewable energy framework to exploit environmentally sustainable energy sources to power Nigerian homes and industries.
“This administration is open to foreign direct investment in renewable and conventional energy.
“Mr President recently declared the power sector investment conference open. I urge you to join the train and invest in our energy sector’’, he said.
Wakil said the federal government was seriously focusing on renewable energy due to environmental factors and the need to supplement energy generation from conventional sources.
Responding, Sharper lauded the ongoing reforms in the Nigerian power sector, describing it as ambitious and yielding positive results.
He said that Nigeria had launched extensive reforms in the sector with positive results, which he said was responsible for the keen interest of his group in the Nigerian energy sector.
“Our group is committed to supporting Nigeria in her drive to reform the power sector.
“We have expertise in all fields of energy, including renewable energy and we will support Nigeria through the ministry to reach her set goals’’, he said.
