28 October 2016, Sweetcrude, Lagos — The maritime professional body in diaspora simply known as NIMSID has called for the resignation of the Director -General of the Nigerian Maritime Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
NIMSID stated that the DG of NIMASA is incapable of handling the affairs of the agency.
The eastern branch deputy director of the group Capt Chinedu Williams express his worries while addressing some youths in Belarus .
Capt Chinedu in a statement obtained by our correspondent told the group that Mr Peterside is not the right person for the job noting that he only ascended to the office based on political compensation and not on merit.
“This explains why the agency remain redundant in it operation,” he said
“Its is sad to note that since Mr Peterside assumed office ,no tangible achievement has been recorded,it has been many talks no action, the most scaring development is that 90 percent of those that were secretly employed into the agency are mere touts who did not have knowledge of the maritime industry, checks reveals that those touts he secretly gave employment happens to be miscreants who assisted him in his failed governorship election aspiration,” Mr Williams alleged.
He added that: “I think we should blame the federal government for choosing mediocrity over merit,i some time wondered why should someone who do not have a maritime degree or experience in a maritime industry be given a task as huge as heading the apex maritime body?
“This abnormally explains why up till now ,there is not common discharge book in view, tell me what does it cost to print common discharge book ,If Mr Peterside cant produce common discharge book for our seafarers what else can he do or what else is he doing in the office?
“We are calling on the federal government to replace Mr Peterside with someone who knew the parameter of the job ,with someone like Peterside ,there is no future for the maritime industry, not only he is not qualify for the job but he lacks the capacity to move the industry forward.”
