09 January 2014 – Heritage Oil has relinquished one of its licences in Tanzania after initial seismic data suggested a neighbouring play had better prospectivity.
The London-listed company has also resumed production at a Nigerian field that has been shut in for two years.
Initial interpretation of 2D seismic gathered in the first quarter last year over the Rukwa licences in Tanzania has shown that the principal prospectivity lies in the Rukwa South licence.
“As such, the Rukwa North Licence area has been relinquished,” Heritage said on Thursday.
“Focused interpretation over the retained Rukwa South licence area has resulted in the identification of several prospects, geologically analogous to the Kingfisher discovery in Uganda, for which detailed prospect mapping and evaluation is ongoing.”
Also in Tanzania, Heritage has completed a geochemical survey of the Kyela licence. A drilling programme across both licences is planned for this year and next year.
In Nigeria, the company has brought the Uzere West field in OML 30 back on production after it was shut in for two years for maintenance.
This partly helped the block achieve gross daily production of more than 50,000 barrels of oil.
