Istanbul — Hungary’s MVM CEEnergy is in talks with Turkish state gas company Botas on a new gas import deal, the company’s chief executive told Reuters on Friday.

In the first such deal between the two countries, MVM signed an agreement with Botas in 2023 to import around 300 million cubic metres of gas.

“We are working on a new agreement for 2025… we are aiming much bigger volumes now,” Laszlo Fritsch said on the sidelines of the Istanbul Energy Forum.
Russian gas would continue to be a major part of the energy mix for the landlocked country Fritsch said, adding that TurkStream is the main import route.
“We cannot only depend on LNG because it is far away and Russian gas is still competitive in the region,” Fritsch said.
