Port Harcourt — Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed that the long-awaited Ibom Deep-Sea Port project is now inching toward commencement, with key documentation and investor engagement processes nearing completion.
Speaking during a meeting with APC stakeholders in Nsit Ubium, the governor said the port, expected to be one of Nigeria’s most strategic maritime assets, has strong backing from the Federal Government and will soon transition from planning to implementation.
“Very soon, we will start the Ibom Deep-Sea Port. It is a long process. Documentation takes much time. Processes of canvassing for suitable and competent investors are ongoing,” Governor Eno stated.
He assured residents that the state government is moving with deliberate speed to ensure all regulatory requirements and investment screenings are concluded.
“The Federal Government is ready, and we are working the talk. Let our people be patient and rest assured that the project will soon be a delightful reality for our common good,” he added.
Governor Eno emphasised that the deep-sea port remains one of the state’s highest strategic priorities, designed to unlock large-scale maritime investment, expand export capacity, attract logistics companies, and create thousands of jobs across the value chain.
At the stakeholder meeting, the governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to political unity and development-focused collaboration with Abuja, noting that the state must remain aligned with national priorities to fully benefit from federal support.
He informed stakeholders that additional infrastructure projects had been approved for Nsit Ubium, while expressing gratitude for the reception and cooperation shown by political leaders in the area.
“I reassured everyone that the Ibom Deep Sea Port remains fully on track, and that the documentation and investor processes are progressing steadily, with strong support from the Federal Government,” he said.
Governor Eno noted that Akwa Ibom’s development trajectory would accelerate as long as the state remained united and open to partnership.
“Together, we will keep Akwa Ibom united and progressively aligned with the Centre,” he said.
