07 October 2014, Abuja – A group, Ijaw Youth Liberation Front, IYLF, has demanded the release of the N600 billion, being money that accrued to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to ensure proper execution of its projects and programmes across the South- South geo-political zone of the country.
The group said in a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, that there was no justification for starving the commission of the necessary funds to develop the region producing the nation’s oil wealth.
It was jointly signed by Mr. Kaka Amgbare, Mr. Tamuno George, and Mr. Sambo Ambrose, President, Director of Mobilisation and Public Relations Officer, PRO, respectively.
According to the statement, “we appeal to the Federal Government to release funds accruing to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, which had been held back, amounting to over N600 billion, which will go a long way to ameliorate the avalanche of infrastructural set back in the region and create employment for the teeming youths of the region.”
It also called on Nigerians to support the efforts of the Nigerian Army towards ending the insurgency in the northern part of the country, while commending them for the success already achieved by the armed forces.
The group argued that the ongoing war against insurgency in the country could only be won through the cooperation of all well-meaning Nigerians and unflinching support for the military.
The group commended Governors Godswill Akpabio and Ibrahim Shema of Akwa Ibom and Kastina states, respectively; Captain Hosa Okunbo and Prince Arthur Eze for their support for the transformation agenda of the President by promoting peace and development across the country.
