*We’ve no plan to relocate headquarters – Shell
Mkpoikana Udoma 01 February 2017, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, worldwide has condemned alleged plan by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, SPDC, to move its corporate headquarters from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Lagos, describing the move as insensitive.
Speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt, the spokesperson of the IYC, Mr. Eric Omare, said if Shell insists on moving its corporate headquarters from the Niger Delta to Lagos, it must also be ready to move out from the EA and Bonga offshore oil fields.
Omare, who also described the alleged relocation plan as anti-Niger Delta, said “it is another scheme by the company to avoid its corporate social responsibilities to Niger Delta communities affected by its operations”.
However, when contacted, SPDC spokesman, Mr. Precious Okolobo, told SweetcrudeReports that the company had no plan to relocate its headquarters from Port Harcourt.
But, Mr. Omare said IYC was aware of the plan and that the move demonstrated the anti-community nature of the company and the other multinationals operating in the Niger Delta, maintaining that it was this posture that gave birth to the present restiveness in the region.
