Electricity transformer23 September 2013, Nairobi – Plans for Kenya’s Taveta town council to start generating its own electricity are in top gear, Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu has revealed. Mruttu said the county will implement the project through a partnership programme with the Melhus Commune in Norway.

Mruttu was speaking to the Star at his office in Wundanyi on Friday after a one week tour of Norway. “The purpose of my visit was to get an indepth understanding of how these activities are financed and how we can get them to benefit the county,” he said.

Mruttu said he met the Norway council committee, mayor and deputy governor during the trip. He said next month, a team of engineers from Norway will visit the county to explore the possibility of generating electricity from the water originating from Njoro springs.
