14 March 2014, Lokoja — The Kogi State government said yesterday that people of the state were not responsible for the alleged attack on facilities of Orient-Petroleum Resources Plc, located at the Kogi-Anambra State boundary.
Secretary to the state Government, Professor Olugbemiro Jegede, expressed displeasure with a report of an attack on the facilities of Orient-Petroleum by indigenes of Kogi.
“The report published on page 41 of the March 11, 2014, edition of Nigeria Tribune is mischievous and erroneous,” he said.
Jegede said when the Anambra government informed the state of the attack, an investigation was carried out.
“We discovered that the story was false, as both the Ibaji council chairman, the traditional ruler of Ibaji as well as the neighbouring communities with Anambra had no information on the alleged attack,” he said.
He added that there are no insurgents in the state while pledging the government’s commitment to ensuring peace in all parts of the state.
The statement, however, called on security agencies to remain alert and carry out a “broad-based” investigation to unravel the people behind the reported attack.
