Lagos — In a bid to ensure free flow of traffic in and around the Lekki Deep Seaport, the Lagos State Government has started the process of approving about four traffic management firms to carry out a call-up system that will manage traffic in the Ibeju-Lekki axis where the port is located.
Speaking to Newsmen at the just concluded long service award of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Fredrick Oladeinde, said that the government is working on that and also in talks with the management of the Lekki Deep Seaport, adding that both organizations have had several meetings.
The Commissioner disclosed that between both organizations, two truck parks will be engaged before the other two parks will come on board.
Oladeinde also said that the state government has done an appraisal of the call-up system noting that the government feels the call-up system will be adequate to manage traffic around the port location.
He said: “We are working with the management of Deep Seaport, we have had several meetings, we are looking at several truck parks across Lekki which we have advertised, and we have been working with them to deploy a call-up system so that we do not have a situation that we have in Apapa port.
“So, we are working together on the call-up system. We have done an appraisal of the system and we feel that it will be adequate for Lekki port and over time we will deploy it.
“But the call-up system will be linked to several truck parks which we advertised, and we will try and see how we can manage traffic.
“We will start with about two truck parks, but we are looking at about four actually.
“Transit Truck Parks Limited also showed interest in the management of traffic in port location in Ibeju Lekki, the result of that will come out very soon, I cannot reveal that to you.
“We have done an appraisal of people that submitted, that will be concluded in the next one or two weeks.
“Lagos State is working with the private sector, and we will continue to ensure that we provide a conducive environment for them to do business, create employment and make sure that they work efficiently.”
