Lawmaker, PHEDC disagree on blackout in Rivers

Port Harcourt — The lawmaker representing Oyigbo Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Promise Nwankwo, has dismissed claims by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC that youths from his constituency, are behind the ongoing blackout in the state.

Recall that PHEDC, yesterday, blamed the power outage in Rivers State on the shutting down of transmission lines by some youths in Afam, Oyigbo LGA, who are demanding 24hours electricity supply to the area as host community to six power plants.

The management of PHEDC had announced that the youths invaded the premises of Afam Power Station, forcing the operators to shutdown supply, over alleged insufficient power supply despite playing hosts to the power station and power plants

But the lawmaker, reacting to the announcement by PHEDC, described the claims as false and misrepresentation of facts.

Nwankwo urged members of the public to disregard claims by PHEDC, saying that the people of Oyigbo are peace loving people that would not indulge in such act.
