16 June 2015, News Wires – Swedish explorer Lundin Petroleum has started drilling of a second appraisal at its Alta discovery in the Barents Sea, off Norway.
The latest probe, 7220/11-3, is being drilled using semi-submersible Island Innovator as a follow up to the successful first appraisal completed recently in Lundin-operated production licence 609 in the frontier Loppa High play.
The well aims to confirm the reservoir model for Alta, currently estimated to hold between 125 million and 400 million barrels of oil equivalent, and confirm the presence of commercial resources in the eastern part of the structure.
It will be drilled to a targeted total depth of 2103 metres in a water depth of 397 metres, with an expected duration of around 60 days that could be extended to 110 days with a production test and possible sidetrack.
Lundin operates the licence with a 40% stake, with partners Dea and Idemitsu Petroleum on 30% each.
