Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, are set to sign a memorandum of understanding for manpower training in the country’s maritime sector.
Vice Chancellor of Nigerian Maritime University, Prof. Emmanuel Adigio, during a meeting with the NDA Commandant, Major-General Ibrahim Yusuf, represented by the Academy’s Director of Coordination, Commodore Olugbenga Oladipo, said the partnership would boost standards in the maritime educational sector.
Adigio disclosed that collaboration with the NDA was imperative, in order to provide quality training and re-training of medium class and high-level manpower in the maritime sector of the economy.
“Let me, on behalf of the University, wholeheartedly appreciate the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, for the warm reception and hospitality shown to the university delegation during our earlier visit to the Academy, which was to foster a symbiotic partnership aimed at availing Nigerians and, indeed, the larger society, more opportunities to improve capacities and training.
“You may recall that the key reasons for our visit to the NDA were to partner in specific academic areas of interest, at the graduate level as well as run short courses collaboratively.
“Gladly, these were harmonized during the technical session that followed during that visit, a product of which a draft Memorandum of Understanding has been prepared for further discussion.”
Responding, NDA Commandant, Major-General Ibrahim Yusuf, represented by the Director of Coordination, Commodore Olugbenga Oladipo, assured that the Academy was ready to forge ahead with the collaboration.
Commodore Oladipo was accompanied to the Maritime University by the NDA Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Umar Yahaya and the Dean of Academic Planning, NDA, Prof. Abubakar Garba Saidu.
