Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has urged the media to play a stronger role in countering misinformation and misrepresentation of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, made the call during a strategic engagement with media practitioners and youth stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, stressing that the press must act as a partner in promoting the country’s oil agenda.
“The media are gatekeepers. When misinformation spreads unchecked, it undermines investment confidence and damages the reputation of our oil and gas sector,” he warned.
Ogbe speaking through the Board’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, urged journalists to prioritize accuracy and context in their reporting, especially on sensitive industry matters.
He noted that the Board is committed to transparency and would continue to provide the press with verified data and access to information.
“We want the media to see themselves as stakeholders. Local content is a national agenda, and the way it is reported can either build confidence or create doubts,” Ogbe said.
He added that NCDMB will expand its media engagement programs, including training workshops, to strengthen capacity for energy reporting.
