Port Harcourt — The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Senator Heineken Lokpobiri has highlighted the pivotal role of strategic investments, unity and collaboration in enhancing crude oil production in the Niger Delta.
Addressing key stakeholders under the theme “Fostering Peace and Unity for the Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta Region,” the Minister outlined how increased collaboration between the region and the Federal Government was essential for achieving the goal.
Lokpobiri speaking recently at the Special General Assembly of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF in Port Harcourt, emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives aimed at ramping up oil production, which he said would significantly boost the 13% derivation revenue for Niger Delta and other oil-producing states.
He pointed out that initiatives under the President’s leadership have made additional resources available, including the Host Community Funds established by the Petroleum Industry Act.
He also stressed the importance of holding State and Local Governments accountable for their roles, noting that the Federal Government alone cannot resolve all regional issues.
“Increased production translates to more revenue and more development. Therefore, I urged PANDEF members and other leaders in the region to align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration, by ensuring continued peace and security across the region in order to sustain the investment thereof.
“Despite the fact that our goal remains steadfast—to further boost production through concerted efforts in driving more investment into the sector, there is need for State and Local Governments to be held accountable for their responsibilities, as the Federal Government cannot address all concerns, especially those within their jurisdiction.
“Boosting production will lead to greater revenue and development opportunities for our region,” Lokpobiri asserted.
