Port Harcourt — Nigeria’s quest to become a major player in the global gas market is gaining momentum, as the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has met with the Oil Producers Trade Section, OPTS, to strategize on boosting natural gas production.
The meeting, led by OPTS Executive Director, Mr. Gwueke Ajaifa, alongside James Makinde and Princess Edeimu, focused on enhancing exports and expanding domestic processing for Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG and Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, usage.
The discussions also centered on developing vital infrastructure to support Nigeria’s gas sector growth, a move which aligns with the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, aimed at transforming Nigeria into a gas-powered economy by 2030.
Speaking, OPTS Executive Director, Mr. Gwueke Ajaifa, commended Minister Ekpo’s leadership and commitment to increasing gas production and investment, stating that “OPTS acknowledges the leadership of the Honourable Minister in advancing the Nigerian gas sector.”
The collaborative effort seeks to unlock Nigeria’s vast gas potential, estimated at 200 trillion cubic feet, and position the country as a major player in the global gas market.
