28 April 2014, News Wires – Genel Energy aims to drill the first exploration well on its Sidi Moussa licence off Morocco later this year, having lined up a rig for the probe, a partner has confirmed.
The wildcat, which Genel said is likely to target the Nour prospect, will be drilled by deep-water semi-submersible Noble Paul Romano after it has completed a probe off Malta due to spud shortly.
Canadian licence partner Longreach Oil & Gas said the probe off Morocco, set to kick off in the third quarter, will target Mid-Jurassic and Lower Triassic reservoirs at the prospect.
Genel holds a 60% operating stake in the licence with partners state-owned ONHYM (25%) and Serica, San Leon Energy and Longreach holding 15% between them.
The Anglo-Turkish explorer is also looking to drill a well this year on its Mir Left licence off Morocco, which it operates with a 75% stake, with a prospect yet to be firmly identified.
