Lagos — The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji has said the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee, NEMIC, is to ensure that mechanism is put in place for every Nigerian, irrespective of location or income, to access affordable and reliable energy.

Nnaji stated this, at the inaugural ceremony of the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee in Abuja.

The Minister revealed that the National Energy Masterplan is not just a document but a comprehensive blueprint approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, a solution that will chart Nigeria’s course towards a secure, diversified and sustainable energy future.

Nnaji pointed out that the document outlines a clear pathway for strengthening the country’s energy security, expanding the energy mix, accelerating the adoption of clean and efficient technologies and ensuring that the nation’s development agenda aligns with global commitments to a sustainable growth and climate action.

He therefore congratulated the committee members and tasked them to deploy expertise, vision and commitment to achieve the mandate.

The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha said that considering the challenge Nigeria faces in energy insecurity, businesses struggling with high cost and the nation’s potential limited by energy shortages, the National Energy Masterplan was approved by the Federal Executive Council to solve these problems.

According to the Co-Chairman NEMIC, Nurudeen Yakubu, this is a great opportunity for the nation to achieve its goal by accessing affordable and reliable energy in order to encourage industrialization in the country.
