Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Navy has strengthened operational welfare and infrastructure at the Bonny axis with the commissioning of a new Senior Ratings Accommodation at the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Bonny, Rivers State, a move senior officers described as setting a new benchmark in base-level development.

The facility was commissioned by the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Donald Okehie, who commended the Commanding Officer of FOB Bonny, Commodore Emmanuel Fingesi, for what he described as intentional and people-focused leadership.

“Commodore Fingesi has set a new standard for infrastructure development at the Base,” Rear Admiral Okehie said. “The deliberate attention given to welfare issues affecting officers and ratings reflects leadership that deserves commendation.”

The FOC noted that welfare-driven infrastructure directly enhances morale, discipline and operational effectiveness, particularly in strategic maritime locations such as Bonny, a key oil and gas corridor in the Niger Delta.

On arrival at the Base, Rear Admiral Okehie, accompanied by the Command Operations Officer, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chinonyerem Oji, and the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Rear Admiral Cajetan Aniaku, was conducted round the facility by Commodore Fingesi.

Providing details of the project, the Base Operations Officer, Lt. Commander Sirajo Almustapha, said the 20-man Senior Ratings Lodge was fully conceived, initiated, completed and furnished under the leadership of the FOB Bonny Commanding Officer to address acute accommodation shortages.

“The project commenced on Friday, August 22, 2025, and was completed on Tuesday, December 30, 2025,” Almustapha stated. “It reflects the Base’s commitment to excellence, discipline and timely project delivery.”

He added that the new accommodation is designed to house 62 ratings, effectively ending the long-standing accommodation deficit at the Base.

The newly commissioned lodge, alongside other initiatives executed under Commodore Fingesi, has significantly enhanced the infrastructural profile of FOB Bonny, reinforcing the Navy’s broader objective of improving personnel welfare while sustaining maritime security operations in Nigeria’s energy-critical coastal zones.
