Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has extended its capacity development initiatives beyond the oil and gas sector, unveiling a Training of Police Trainers on ICT, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Skills to equip law enforcement officers with modern digital competencies vital for national security and socio-economic growth.
The intensive training, which commenced in Calabar, Cross River State, is being facilitated by Dexterous Applied Training Institute and focuses on building digital literacy, artificial intelligence awareness, and ICT problem-solving skills among police trainers.
Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Board’s Supervisor for Government Relations, Mr. Teddy Bai, said the initiative underscores NCDMB’s belief that sustainable national development is anchored on technology-driven capacity building.
“In today’s digital age, ICT skills are essential for law enforcement agencies to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety. This training reflects NCDMB’s unwavering commitment to capacity development and innovation, not just within the oil and gas industry, but across critical sectors that impact national growth and stability.”
Bai explained that the training aligns with the Board’s broader human capacity development agenda under the Nigerian Content 10-Year Strategic Roadmap, which aims to deepen skills transfer, innovation, and digital inclusion across Nigeria’s workforce.
“As the world transitions to digital economies, integrating ICT and artificial intelligence into law enforcement is no longer optional, it is fundamental to protecting lives, investments, and critical energy infrastructure,” he said.
He noted that the NCDMB’s intervention is strategically designed to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and build institutional capacity for smarter, data-driven policing in Nigeria’s oil-producing regions and beyond.
Participants at the event, drawn from various police training commands, expressed appreciation to NCDMB and Dexterous Applied Training Institute for the forward-looking initiative.
They pledged to apply the knowledge gained in their training responsibilities and field operations, noting that technology is now a critical tool in tackling modern crimes such as cyber fraud, oil theft, and terrorism financing.
“This program is timely and transformative. It will help us understand how to use ICT tools and AI to prevent and investigate crimes more effectively,” one of the officers remarked.
Also present at the event was Mr. Prince Foncha, Officer, Corporate Communications, NCDMB, who reiterated the Board’s resolve to promote innovation, human capital development, and knowledge transfer as pillars for economic resilience.
“Together, we are building a more secure, digitally skilled, and prosperous Nigeria,” Foncha said.
The training is part of NCDMB’s ongoing investment in cross-sectoral digital transformation, positioning Nigeria to leverage technology for both industrial competitiveness and national security.
