21 August 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – THE Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHC, has invited the law enforcement agencies and community leaders across the country to help in protecting the nation’s power infrastructure.
The NDPHC was established by the Federal, state and local governments to handle the funding and implementation of the National Integrated Projects, NIPP.
The managing director, Mr. James Olotu expressed concerned over the activities of hoodlums, who recently carted away high tension cables and accessories belonging to the company.
The items were removed by the hoodlums from a portion of the company’s 330kV transmission line at Yangoji village along Lokoja-Gwagwalada road.
Mostly affected in the action of the vandals were towers 493, 494 and 495, spanning an area of about 800 meters, the statement said.
According to the managing director, the equipment carted away by the vandals were needed for the completion of the transmission line, that would carry electricity from the new NIPP power station at Geregu to consumers in Kogi State, Abuja and the rest of the national electricity grid.
Olotu urged Nigerians to assist in protecting NIPP assets as their own, maintaining that they belonged to all Nigerians since the three tiers of government in the country were the joint owners of the projects.
He reiterated governments determination to ensure steady power supply nationwide, but stressed that this plan by government could be derailed by the activities of vandals.
He pleaded with community leaders to assist the law enforcement agencies by providing useful information that would arrest the activities of vandals and safeguard the power infrrastructure.
