NERC says MAP approval process not over

04 June 2018, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has said the process for approving Meter Access Providers, MAP, is ongoing.

The clarification came after the commission on May 23 announced granting 22 “successful applicants” a ‘No Objection’ license after a due diligence exercise.

According to NERC, more applicants would be granted licenses as the process was continuing.

“Members of the public should please note that the publication of the 22 successful applicants in some national dailies does not foreclose the exercise which is still continuous”, NERC said in a statement to SweetcrudeReports.

NERC granted the ‘No Objection’ licenses to the 22 firms to participate in the meter procurement process following its approval of the Meter Asset Provider, MAP, Regulation 2018.

A statement by the commission said the successful firms were chosen after it called for applications from interested investors and conducted “due diligence” on the applications.

Explaining further, NERC said the MAP regulation is to facilitate closure of the wide metering gap in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, within three years.
