Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has revealed its intention to cancel licenses belonging to Ikeja Electric and seven other DisCos over what it described as breach of provisions of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, EPSRA terms and conditions of their respective distribution licenses and the 2016-2018 Minor Review of Multi-Year Tariff Order, MYTO and minimum remittance order for the year 2019.

A notice by the commission on Tuesday disclosed that the move to withdraw their licenses is pursuant to provisions of section 74 of the EPSRA.

The affected DisCos are Ikeja Electric Plc, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Enugu Electric Distribution Company Plc, Kaduna Electric Distribution Company Plc, Kano Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company Plc, and Yola Electricity Distribution Company Plc.

NERC said it considers their actions as “manifest and flagrant breaches” of ESPRA, terms, and conditions of their licenses and the Order, and therefore requires each of them to show cause in writing within 60 days from the date of receipt of the notice as to why their licenses should not be canceled.
