    11 July 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos —
Majority of electricity consumers do not even know what to do should they be faced with cases where their power supply is illegally disconnected because of few person’s fault.

Here is what you should know:
By establishing procedures for connections and disconnections in the Connection & Disconnection Procedures for Electricity Services Regulation (Section 2(2.1)), NERC has put a stop to mass disconnection- that is, a situation where a group of customers are disconnected just because of a few defaulters, which leads to wrongful disconnections.

It is the duty of Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) to identify specific customers who owe electricity bills and give them a reasonable time to pay their bills.

However, if all reasonable efforts to make them pay their bills fail, discos are to give them a final warning after which a customer’s power supply can then be disconnected.

In other words, mass disconnection of the power supply is wrong.
So when next the whole of your area is being mass-disconnected, report such case to NERC’s office nearest to your district.
