19 September 2016, Port Harcourt — The Rivers State Police Command has said that 14 workers of a multi-national oil company abducted two weeks ago along Omoku/Ahoada road in Rivers State have been freed.
The oil workers who are staff of Nest Oil were abducted as they were returning to Port Harcourt from Omoku.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said in a press statement that the workers were rescued unhurt through the efforts of the command’s tactical units.
He said the unit in the early hours of yesterday engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle which he said lasted for one and half hours and led to the rescue of the victims as the kidnappers who were overpowered by the police abandoned their hostages and fled.
