Port Harcourt — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for the BRICS bloc’s call for a restructured global financial architecture, declaring that the coalition of emerging economies must evolve into a beacon for sustainable and inclusive solutions.

Speaking at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, President Tinubu stressed the importance of financial re-engineering and systemic reevaluation, urging member nations to harness their collective strength to address pressing global challenges.

“Nigeria associates with what I have heard at BRICS here in Rio, Brazil. The next issues are financial restructuring and reevaluation of the global structure,” the Nigerian leader stated.

He called for BRICS to transcend its identity as a bloc of emerging economies to become a transformative force championing solidarity, self-reliance, sustainability, and shared prosperity.

“BRICS must not only be a bloc for emerging economies but also a beacon for emerging solutions rooted in solidarity, self-reliance, sustainability, and shared prosperity,” Tinubu said.

Highlighting Nigeria’s demographic advantage, President Tinubu emphasized the urgent need to incorporate youth-centered development in global policymaking.

“We must be the architects of a future that addresses the specific needs and concerns of youths, who represent 70% of Nigeria’s population,” he said.

The President also seized the platform to spotlight Nigeria’s domestic efforts aimed at tackling climate change, expanding healthcare, and accelerating the energy transition.

“I reminded fellow leaders that Nigeria is not a passive participant in global affairs. We are taking bold, homegrown steps to accelerate renewable energy, mainstream climate action, strengthen urban resilience, and expand healthcare access,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, President Tinubu made it clear that Nigeria is ready to lead by example in shaping the future of global cooperation and development.

“The world is changing. Nigeria will not be left behind. We will help lead the way,” he declared.

The BRICS Summit gathered leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and newly invited members, to discuss frameworks for economic collaboration, reform of multilateral institutions, and strategies for navigating global instability.
