29 May 2015, Abuja – The newly inaugurated President Muhammadu Buhari has described the epileptic power supply in the country as a “national shame” which must be tackled urgently.
The President said this in his inaugural speech at the Eagles Square in Abuja on Friday.
“The power situation is a national shame. It is not acceptable for an economy of a 150 million people to generate only 4000 megawatt and distributes even less,” he said.
He said fund expended on power generation and supply since 1999 was close to $20 billion but it has “only brought darkness, frustration, misery and resignation among Nigerians.”
Buhari therefore, vowed that: “We will not allow this to go on, we will identify the cheapest, safest and most effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.”
