01 February 2016, Abuja — The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has said the federal government is determined to increase the capacity of transmission stations to achieve optimal power delivery in the country.
Fashola said this during a courtesy visit on Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue State in Makurdi after he had assessed the site for the Apir 330/132/33KV Transmission Station in Makurdi.
Ortom responded with a promise that his administration would work closely with the Power ministry as it considers the ministry strategic to the development of Benue State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that at Lafia, Nasarawa State, Gov. Tanko Al-Makura appealed to the minister to address the deplorable state of power supply to the state. Speaking during the continuous assessment of some projects in the North Central geopolitical zone, Al-Makura said the state capital has the lowest level of electricity supply from the national grid.
“We have the 330kv line passing through Lafia from Enugu to Makurdi and to Jos, but during the last four years, there was no effort to drop the 333kv line which passes just on top of the Government House,” he said.
