25 December 2015, Nnewi – A massive explosion has taken place at Inter Corp Oil limited, a liquefied petroleum gas plant and subsidiary of the Chikason Group, located in the industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra state in southeastern Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of several people.

An eye-witness disclosed that the explosion occured while a truck was discharging its content, adding that as a result a fire fire incident followed immediately.

The eye witness disclosed that all the customers who went to the gas plant to get a refill were allegedly burnt to death while some of the victims who were in the neighborhood and passers-by also got caught in the inferno.

At the scene of the incident, the charred bodies of the victims and others severely burnt persons were taken to Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi.

It was gathered that the raging inferno did not allow rescue workers into the premises where hundreds were allegedly trapped.
