Kunle Kalejaye 13 January 2016, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Nigerian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, NLPGA, has revealed that the nation’s current Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, consumption rate standing at 350,000 tonnes per annum was grossly low as the country had the potential to consume five million tonnes of the product, more popularly known as cooking gas, yearly.
President of NLPGA , Mr. Dayo Adesina, who disclosed this in Lagos, said with a population of over 160 million people, Nigeria ought to consumed five million tonnes of LPG every year rather than a paltry 350,000 tonnes.
He maintained that the gas that would be turned into cooking gas was abundant in Nigeria as the country had more gas than oil, adding however that consumption could only rise to five million tonnes per annum if firewood and other dirty and poisonous fuels were discourage, and LPG awareness campaign given priority in the country.
According to Adesina, LPG awareness could be achieved in every part of the country if the Federal Government was serious with the planned 20 percent reduction of green house emission.
