9 November 2011, Sweetcrude, Jos – The National President, Miners’ Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Sani Shehu, has said the nation was losing billions of naira in revenue annually to illegal miners, who do not pay taxes and royalties.

Shehu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos, Plateau State, that genuine owners of mining titles were also losing billions of naira to the illegal miners, who usually carry out their illegal activities on mining sites when the owners were not around.

“These illegal miners mine on titles that do not belong to them, either in the night or whenever they will not be seen by the owners of such titles,” he said.
