    Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission issues 144 licenses since 2007

    31 August 2018, Sweetcrude, Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has issued 144 licenses since its inception in 2007.

    The NERC was formed through the EPSRAct of 2005 and it was inaugurated on 30 October 2007 with Ransome Owan as its first Chairman/CEO.

    In its most recent publication, 2017 third-quarter report, the total number of On-grid, Off-grid and Independent Energy Distribution Network, IEDN licenses issued by the commission since inception up till the end of the third quarter of 2017 amounted to 93, 29 and 10 respectively.

    NREC also issued nine on-grid generation licenses with a total nameplate capacity of 2,738MW while three permits were issued for captive power generation with a total capacity of 71.1MW.
