07 December 2012, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has reached an agreement with the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, to settle their differences which threatened to disrupt the activities of the oil company.
According to a communique from their meeting held at the Ministry of Labour and Productivity in Abuja on Wednesday, the union agreed to call off its strike action against Shell while Shell reinstated the sacked chairman of the NUPENG-SPDC caretaker committee, Mr. Kingsley Enomate.
The communiqué which was made available to THISDAY in Abuja yesterday, added that Shell and NUPENG have agreed to resolve internally the matter of the former Chairman of NUPENG who was expelled for anti-union activities
The parties agreed to report back to the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu on progresses made by January 31, 2013.
The communiqué was signed by General Manager, Human Resources of NNPC, Mr. Peter Odjoji, his SPDC counterpart, Mr.C.I Gbandi, Deputy President, NUPENG, John Ossai, General Secretary of NUPENG, Isaac Aberare and the Director Trade Union Services of the Labour Ministry, Mrs. Chinwe Dike.
