27 December 2011, Sweetcrude, AKURE –Members of the Nigerian Senate Committees on Niger Delta and Environment have been recalled from the Christmas and New Year recess following last week’s spillage of about 40,000 barrels of crude oil at Shell’s Bonga oil field.

Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, a member of one of the affected committees told newsmen in Akure that members of the committees have been directed to visit the scene of the oil spill with a view to determining the extent of damage. He however did not mention who gave the directive.

The member, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State, explained that necessary attention would be drawn to the incident to ensure that Shell cleans up the spill properly in addition to putting in place measure to prevent such future occurence.
