Port Harcourt — The Nigeria LNG Limited has assured stakeholders in Bonny Kingdom that its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR projects tied to the Train-7 development remain on course, despite concerns raised about delays and plans for protests at project sites by the host communities.

In a statement issued by the company’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, NLNG reaffirmed its commitment to delivering two flagship projects under its CSR initiatives: the Shell Gate-Coal Beach with a Spur to the Perekule Palace Road and the Bonny Vehicular Terminal.

According to the company, both projects have reached significant milestones, having completed the Front-End Engineering Design phase and entered the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contracting phase.

Horsfall disclosed that the projects are slated to commence immediately, with completion targeted for 2027.

NLNG highlighted its track record of delivering impactful CSR projects associated with Trains 1 to 6, which they company said have significantly benefited Bonny Kingdom and positioned the community as a model for sustainable development in the Niger Delta.

“NLNG remains steadfast in its dedication to fostering enduring progress in Bonny Kingdom, ensuring the community continues to enjoy Nigerian Content benefits and social investments tied to Train 7,” the statement read.

The company further emphasized that Train 7 was not only a critical driver of gas development in Nigeria but also a key initiative for advancing local community development in the Niger Delta region.

NLNG urged all stakeholders to remain engaged and assured them of its unwavering commitment to delivering on its promises to the Bonny Kingdom and Rivers State.

The statement comes amidst the suspended protests at NLNG project sites and other multinationals operating on the Island, by all the 35 Chieftaincy Houses in Bonny Kingdom with the hashtag #LibertyforBonnyKingdom over unmet CSR projects implementation, neglect and marginalisation.

The protest which was planned to shutdown the entire Bonny Kingdom indefinitely, including market, businesses as well as halt entry and exit into the island was suspended yesterday, following the intervention of security agencies, as stakeholders are expected to meet on Wednesday for amicable resolution.
