Port Harcourt — The Nigeria LNG Limited has affirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and local content development with the official launch of its Train-7 project’s Human Capital Development, HCD, Basic Training Supplementary Programme, BTSP, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the high-profile event, Engr. Dagogo Buowari, Nigerian Content Development Manager at NLNG, described the initiative as a landmark effort to build technical capacity among Nigerians and deepen the impact of the ongoing Train 7 Project.
The supplementary training programme, an expansion of the earlier Train 7 HCD Basic Training, features two distinct learning tracks: theoretical classroom modules and practical, field-based hands-on experience.
Both tracks follow a rigorous curriculum designed to equip participants with industry-relevant skills and technical competence.
“This initiative further strengthens NLNG’s role in supporting Nigerian Content development, especially within the ongoing Train 7 Project. We are proud to sustain this momentum in collaboration with the NCDMB, whose visionary support continues to drive human capital development across Nigeria.
“For the trainees, this is not just a learning programme, it is a launchpad for your professional journey. Commit fully, complete all required modules, and take the certification process seriously. This experience could define your future,” Buowari said, urging beneficiaries to take the training seriously.
The event was attended by officials from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, including Mrs. Tarilate Teide-Bribena, Manager, Human Capital Development, who praised the initiative for aligning with the Board’s objectives of increasing Nigerian participation in the oil and gas sector through capacity building.
In addition to technical training, the programme offers a full suite of support services for trainees.
These include healthcare coverage through Reliance HMO, mentorship opportunities with seasoned oil and gas professionals, and counselling and emotional wellness resources to ensure personal and professional balance during the training.
“This is about producing not just skilled workers, but well-rounded professionals who can thrive in complex environments. Our goal is to ensure that every participant emerges better equipped to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s energy sector and economy.”
The supplementary training is part of the larger Train 7 Project, which is expected to boost Nigeria’s liquefied natural gas production capacity significantly and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Buowari also commended NLNG staff and internal project teams for their commitment to the programme’s success.
“Many hands within NLNG have worked tirelessly to make today a success. From those present in this room to others handling business-critical operations elsewhere, we say thank you. Your efforts are contributing to a more sustainable and empowered Nigeria,” he said.
The Train 7 Human Capital Development initiative reflects NLNG’s broader vision of “Inspiring a Sustainable Future” and aligns with national goals of local content growth, inclusive economic development, and youth empowerment.
