Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, has
sealed up a gas plant for operating without approval and licence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Authority also vowed to arrest and prosecute the owner of the said gas plant, which recently experienced an explosion at its site along the East-West Road axis of Port Harcourt.
The Field Coordinator of NMDPRA in Rivers State, Tubo-Alabo Lionel, after preliminary investigation on the site of the incident, said the operators of the gas plant were not obeying safety rules.
Lionel explained that preliminary investigation showed that four persons were injured during the gas explosion.
He said all efforts to confirm the health status of the victims at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital have been unsuccessful as the staff of the Wounds and Burnt Department at the hospital denied them access.
