15 May 2017, Sweetcrude, Maiduguri — Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has disclosed that the corporation plans to commence oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin in the next six months.

Dr. Baru made the disclosure when he led the management of the corporation to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor of Borno state, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, at the Government House, Maiduguri.

He said plans are on to mobilise sophisticated oil exploration equipment to the area to commence work.

The NNPC helmsman disclosed that the plan follows assurances of adequate security from the military after relative peace had been restored to the area with the degrading of the threat posed by Boko Haram.
