    NNPC workforce drops to 5,566 staff across 21 subsidiaries

    Dublin, Ireland — The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited’s, (NNPCL), workforce across its 21 subsidiaries stood at 5,566 staff at the end of 2024, dropping by 2.52 per cent from 5,710 staff recorded at the end of 2023, according to latest employee data released by the corporation.

    The NNPCL, in its employee data for the fourth quarter of 2024, also reported that the 5,566 staff strength at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024 was 0.77 per cent lower than the 5,609 staff recorded at the end of the third quarter of 2024.

    The NNPCL added that of the total workforce at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024, 4,540 staff, representing 81.6 per cent of the total, were males; while 1,026 staff, representing 18.6 per cent of the total, were females.

    It further noted that male staff members made up 77.6 per cent of its leadership, while female staff members made up 22.4 per cent of its leadership.

    Giving a breakdown of its employees across different cadres in the fourth quarter of 2024, the NNPCL stated that only one staff was in its Junior Staff two (JS2) category; while 202 staff made up the JS1 category.

    Furthermore, employees in its Senior Staff Seven (SS7) category, SS6, SS5, SS4, SS3, SS1 and SS1 categories were 28; 78; 1,087; 196; 641; 423; 1,707, respectively; while staff members in the Management Six (M6) cadre; M5; M4, M3, M2 and M1 cadre, stood at 732 staff; 305 staff; 126 staff; 35 staff; four staff and one staff, respectively.

    The NNPCL reported that in the junior staff category, 203 people were in its employment at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024; while 4,160 staff and 1,203 staff were employed in the senior staff and management cadres, respectively.

    The national oil firm also disclosed that of its 203 staff in its junior category, 191 were males (94 per cent of category’s total) were male, while 12 staff (six per cent of category’s total), were females.

    In the senior staff category, 3,416 employees were males, while 744 employees were females; male staff members in the middle management category were 811; while female staff members were 226; top management category had 122 men in the NNPCL employ and 44 women.

    The NNPCL has 21 business units/subsidiaries across the upstream, downstream, gas & power, new energy and non-energy divisions.

    The business units/subsidiaries are: NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL); NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS); NNPC Energy Services Limited (EnServ); NNPC Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO); NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC); and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML).

    Others are NNPC Gas & Power Investment Services (NGPIS); NNPC New Energy Limited (NNEL); NNPC Trading Limited (NTL); NNPC Retail Limited (NRL); NNPC Shipping Limited (NSL); NNPC RefChem Limited (NRCL); NNPC Downstream Investment Services (NDIS); Nigerian Pipelines and Storage Company Limited (NPSC); and National Energy Reserve Management Company (NERMC).

    The rest are: NNPC Non-Energy Investment Services (NNIS); NNPC Foundation Limited/Gte; NNPC Academy; NNPC Properties Limited (NPL); Health Maintenance Organization (HMO); Research Technology and Innovation (RTI).
